Introduction

The Nb-Ni system is of interest because of the Ni-based superalloys, where Nb is a common component, and affects the precipitation of Ni3Al, γʹ. The properties also depend on the precipitation of NbNi3, γʺ. At high temperatures, the solid solution strengthening becomes increasingly important [2010Gan]. Additionally, since the compositions between Nb60Ni40 - Nb40Ni60 [1979Che] can be made amorphous by mechanical alloying, it is of interest in the manufacture of metallic glasses [1997Che], especially considering that the Nb39.75Ni60.25 has been shown to have good compressive strength and a compressive ductility of 5.3% [2007Che...
