Introduction

Scandium, as well as rare earth metals, is used for micro-alloying of alloys based on nickel to change the properties of these alloys for better. Intermetallic compounds of the Ni-Sc system can be applied as a convenient admixing material to carry out a precise alloying [1995Kon, 1996Kon1], therefore the knowledge of the Ni-Sc phase diagram and properties of Ni-Sc alloys are important.The Ni-Sc alloys were investigated by [1961Dwi, 1962Ald, 1968Goe, 1978Mar, 1984Mas, 1987Bra, 1997Sem1, 1997Sem2]. Phase relations in the system in the composition range 0-36 at.% Sc were studied by [1968Goe, 1984Mas]. The melting diagram (combined solidus and liquidus surfaces) in the range of the Ni-80 at.% Sc alloys was determined in [1978Mar].
