Since the early assessments of experimental literature data by [1944Ray] only few changes have been made compared to the currently accepted phase diagram version, published e.g. in [Mas2]. To understand and critically discuss this version it is necessary to go back to the first comprehensive experimental works dedicated to Cu-Sn, started at the end of the 19th century. A first complete freezing point curve, as the liquidus was designated that time, was published by [1897Hey]. Some years later the same authors [1904Hey] published the first complete phase diagram based on cooling curves and metallographic studies, which were notably detailed and extended.
