The binary Bi-In system is important as the subsystem in many essential materials for various industrial applications, despite to the fact, that the system itself does not exhibit materials properties exploitable in the praxis. The system is important part of the materials for lead-free soldering, where addition of some elements (e.g. Sn) can significantly improve the materials properties [2007Wit]. Another application of this system can be found in Zn-based alloys, which contain the InBi intermetallic compound, and which are used for alkaline batteries production. Also, the Bi-In amalgams can serve as a luminescent material improving the properties of a fluorescent lamp [2000Lan].
