There is a number of reasons for the scientific interest in the phase relations in the Al-Fe-V system, particularly as alloys of this system have a potential for design and development of engineering alloys in diverse applications. Examples are the stabilization of the intermetallic phase Fe3Al to higher temperatures, generating two-phase coherent (αδFe, V) (A2) + Fe3Al (D03) microstructures, and application of the VFe2Al compound belonging to the Heusler compounds. Compounds of this type possess many attractive properties, such as magneto-optical properties, shape memory effect, magnetocaloric, spin polarization and thermoelectric properties, as well as heavy-fermion behavior.
