Li - Y (Lithium - Yttrium)

Liya Dreval

Introduction

The phase equilibria in the Li-Y system were studied by [1998Gan] (Table 1). The liquidus and peritectic temperatures were established for three alloys. [1998Gan] also calculated the peritectic composition. A phase diagram of the system was not provided. [2009Oka] drawn the phase diagram in his review though a number of mistakes should be pointed out. The invariant peritectic line was shown at temperature lower than that denoted with a number. The drawn peritectic composition also does not correspond to its numerical value. [2009Oka] suggested that the maximum solubility of lithium in the (αY) phase is around 6 at.% although no relevant experimental data are available in the literature. Considering the fact that in the La-Li system the (αLa) phase dissolves negligible amount of lithium it can be expected that ...
