Phase relations in the Er-Mg system were proposed in an assessment by [1988Nay], comprising all available literature data up to1986. At that time only the Mg-rich part of the diagram seemed well established [1978Rok]. Since then, the Er-Mg system was examined in detail by [1992Sac] using differential thermal analysis, X-ray examination, metallography and microprobe analysis. [1992Oka] essentially reproduced the diagram of [1992Sac] with some additional comments. [1998Rok] presented a review on the solubility of Er in Mg and a high-pressure synthesis and single crystal structure refinement of Er₂Mg has been reported by [1996Ebn].
