Aluminium-lithium alloys have received a great deal of attention over the past years as structural materials in aerospace applications because of their low specific density (lithium additions reduce density ~3% decrease for every weight percent), increase elastic modulus and introduce precipitation hardening by the formation of the metastable LiAl3 (αʹ) phase.
