The limiting solubility of hydrogen in solid americium increases from approximately 0 at 475°C to 28 at.% at 879°C [73Rod]. Two hydrides with broad homogeneity ranges and with the notional formulae AmH2 and AmH3, are formed in the Am-H system. AmH2 has a face-centered cubic lattice of α-CaF2 type and AmH3 has a hexagonal lattice, being isostructural with PuH3 and NpH3 [66Ols, 73Rod].
