A critical assessment on the system Mg-Tm was reported by [1988Nay] including references up to 1983. Since then a series of publications appeared (see Table 1). The authors of [1995Sac] used interpolation (or extrapolation) criteria for prediction of the invariant reaction temperatures of the Mg-Tm phase diagram. The predictedversion was compared with that determined experimentally by analyzing a few key compositions by means of X-ray diffraction, metallography, SEM, DTA and EPMA. The authors prepared alloys from high purity elements, which for reaction were sealed in Ta-crucibles under pure argon, induction heated to the melting range under continuous shaking and finally quenched.
