The formation of intermetallic compounds in the manganese rich part of the binary Nd-Mn system has been investigated in the temperature range from 500°C to 800°C by [1990Mak]. Samples have been prepared from a mixture of the pure elements (Nd with 99.1 at.% and Mn with 99.5 at.% purity) in an electric arc furnace under purified Ar. The samples have been wrapped in molybdenum sheets, sealed in quartz tubes, annealed at 800°C (770h), 700°C (1000h), 600°C (730h), 500°C (720h) and 400°C (1150h) and analysed by X-ray diffraction. NdMn2 and Nd6Mn23, were the only stable compounds above 500°C.
