There are two experimental phase diagram investigations covering the entire composition range of the Al-Hf system [1962Poe2, 1970Tsy] (Table 1). Overall the results agree quite well, but many issues remain uncertain, in part because the above mentioned studies are not complete or contradict each other on details. Studies of the Al-rich end of the system [1960Rat, 1966Zam] complement some of these deficiencies. In attempting to resolve several of the disagreements between [1962Poe2] and [1970Tsy], as well as in order to incorporate data reported by other researchers, assessments by [1975Kau, 1981Kub, 1991Lee, 1994Oka, 1998Mur] introduced small but significant modifications to the originally reported diagrams without arriving at a result acceptable regarding the phases Hf₂Al and a TiAl₃ type of HfAl<...
