No investigation of the constitution of the Al-W system was presented since [1940Cla] Table 1. In this study a large number of alloys evenly distributed over the entire composition range were prepared by melt casting or sintering under vacuum from 99.5+ mass% pure W and three grades of Al ranging in purity from 99.4 to 99.998 mass% Al. The purest Al was used for alloys most rich in Al, while for some alloys more rich in W, Al 99.8 pure was considered satisfactory. The alloys were characterised by wet chemical analysis, metallography, XRD, DTA (heating as well as cooling between 400°C and 1000°C), and TA (cooling from 1400 to 1000°C).
