Investigations on the Al-C diagram were mainly devoted to the solubility of carbon in liquid aluminum and to the incongruent melting of the only known carbide Al4C3. Consistent results are reported for the solubility of C in liquid Al4C3 above 1700°C. However, the various diagrams proposed disagree widely on the melting point of Al4C3, which is reported as low as 1990°C and as high as 2700°C [1991Sch]. [Mas2] gives a decomposition point at 2500°C. [1992Oka] pointed out, that the boiling point of Al reported by [Mas2] is 2700°C instead of the generally accepted value of 2519(±1)°C.
