Introduction

A ternary γ-brass type phase Ca₁₆Ag₁₈Hg₁₈ was found after melting the > 99.9 mass% pure elements in a sealed silica tube at 850°C [80Pus]. Ag and Hg are randomly distributed. The phase Ca₄Hg₉ (= Ca₁₆Hg₃₆) has the same structure, but whether there is a range of homogeneity between Ca₁₆Ag₁₈Hg₁₈ and Ca₄Hg₉ was not investigated.
