Two ternary compounds, Li2AgAl [68Pau] and Li3AgAl5 [70Ole], have been reported. The compound Li2AgAl is yellowish-pink in colour and decomposes in moist air but is stable in dry air. It was prepared by melting the elements in a sealed Fe crucible under dry Ar, shaking to homogenise and air cooling to room temperature. No annealing treatment was given to the solidified compound. X-ray powder diffraction analysis results are given in Table 1. [68Pau] observed that Li2AgAl, when subjected to X-ray diffraction analysis after holding at room temperature for 2 to 12 months, showed a change from a fcc to a more complicated structure or it decomposes into different intermetallic compounds.
