Silver - Bismuth - Fluorine

Alan Prince

Introduction

[83Gra] studied the AgF-BiF3 system by heating the mixed fluorides at 400°C for 6 h in sealed Au tubes under dry argon and examining the phases in the quenched state by X-ray diffraction analysis. An intermediate phase AgBiF4 was found. A disordered cubic solid solution, derived from the CaF2-type, exists from x = 0.65 to x = 0.73 for compositions expressed as Ag1-xBixF1+2x (10.6 at.% Ag, 19.7 at.% Bi to 7.8 at.% Ag, 21.1 at.% Bi). No intermediate phase of higher Bi content was detected; specifically the phase AgBi3F10, where x = 0.75, does not exist.
