Introduction

The ternary system Ag-Ce-La was determined by [54Vog] who applied thermal analysis and metallographic methods to 19 alloys. The alloys were prepared by fusion of the elements in alumina crucibles under either Ar or a layer of KCl and BaCl2. The two binary systems (Ag-Ce and Ag-La) investigated by [54Vog] are so similar that the ternary system was nearly ideal. The melting valleys run through from one Ag-rare earth system to the other and so the phases exhibit mutual solid solubility. The peritectically formed phase called Ag4Ce [80Heu, 83Sta, 84Sta, 85Gsc] or Ag5Ce [70McM, 75Del] respectively Ag4La [82Heu] or Ag5La [70McM, 74Del, 83Gsc] was not detected by [54Vog...
