Introduction

The only data on the system is a 500°C isothermal section [70Fra] determined by examination of twelve alloys using the X-ray diffraction technique. No ternary phases were found. At 500°C all the binary compounds except Ag3Al enter into the equilibria. There is little solubility of Ag in Au5Al2, Au2Al, AuAl, and little solubility of Au in Ag2Al. The compound AuAl2 dissolves some 10 at.% Ag and the single-phase region based on Au4Al stretches across nearly the whole system. (Note the similarity in crystal structure of the compounds Au4Al and Ag3Al).
