Introduction

In the pseudobinary system AgI-BiI3 23 samples have been studied by DTA, microcalorimetry and X-ray diffraction [79Fou]. Two ternary compounds with extended solid solubility along that section have been discovered. Samples of about 0.1 g were prepared by melting AgI and BiI3 in evacuated silica capsules followed by annealing at 350°C for 48 h. In addition to the DTA studies, thermal effects were studied by heating samples in a microcalorimeter using heating rates of 0.3°C/min or 2°C/min. The ternary compound (Ag2BiI5), (α), melts incongruently at 426°C and exhibits a homogeneity range of 30-45 mole% BiI3 (11.54 at.% - 15.52 at.% Bi) which includes the stoichiometry corresponding to Ag2BiI5. The second ternary compound (AgBi2ICited references - 4, figures - 1, tables - 1, chapters - 4
