The earlier studies of the ternary Ag-Cd-Cu system by [1932Kei, 1934Los, 1935Los] and [1955Wei] were superseded by the extensive work of [1956Geb1, 1956Geb2] and [1959Pet]. The investigations of Gebhardt and Petzow include microscopic, thermal and differential thermal analyses, X-ray analysis, microhardness and dilatometric measurements that were performed on 170 alloys under both cast and vacuum annealed conditions. Annealing temperatures for most of the samples were 500°C for 30 days and 600°C for 20 days. When the β2 phase was expected to appear the samples were annealed for 50 and 30 days respectively, to warrant that equilibrium is reached.
