Silver - Bismuth - Sulfur

Introduction

This system contains two ternary compounds, AgBiS2 and AgBi3S5. AgBiS2 was first prepared by crystallization from liquid Bi containing Ag and S [95Roe]. Ramdohr [38Ram] found an allotropic transformation which occurs very sluggishly. The equilibrium temperature was expected between 204 and 220°C. The high temperature form crystallizes in the NaCl-type, and for the room temperature form, which also appears as a mineral ("schapbachite" or "matildite"), Ramdohr reported an orthorhombic unit cell.
